NEW THEATRE SHOW “STRADA”
Theatre Company ISH and Bekijk ’T created a new theatre show named “Strada” based on the classical film “La Strada” directed by Federico Fellini in 1954.
Michael had the chance to audition for Strada. Script writer and director Dick van den Heuvel was amazed by Michael’s talent during the audition, when Michael performed the written dialog with his opponent.
Michael was booked for the new theatre show. Being a actor working with an script was a new challenge and experience for Michael.
“La Strada”; The Story
La Strada tells the story about Gelsomnina, a naief and simple girl. Gelsomnina her mother is very poor and sold her for less money to a streetartist named Zampano.
Zampano is a mean person and is abusing Gelsomnina physical and mental. He teach her in a cruwl way how to stand up as a streetartist. Gelsomnina stay’s optimistic and forgives Zampano every time of his bad behavior. But then she meets Matto, a funny trapeze artist that works in the same circus where Zampano and Gelsomnina works for aswell. Zampano and Matto can’t get along at all, and when Matto is showing Gelsomnina that there is much more value in life, the anger of Zampano becomes unstoppable. Zampano attacks Matto with a knife and ends up in jail. Matto ends up flirting with Gelsomnina, but finds out that she loves Zampano. Matto leaves peacefully and proceeds his journey with the circus.
Zampano his time in jail is over and as soon as he gets out, Gelsomnina waits for him outside, ready to travell through Italy. During their journey they bump against Matto and Zampano and Matto are fighting again. The fight goes out of control and by accident Zampano kills Matto. Gelsomnina cannot deal with this scene and she start losing her happiness and becomes a depressed woman. Zampano realize his behavior and murder is horrible and unforgivable, and dumps Gelsomnina.
When many years goes by, Zampano finds out that Gelsomnina past away after he abended her, he strongly realised what he left behind.
